Waters of Nereus

In Waters of Nereus, you direct a crew of seafarers on Nereus, an amazing world of vast oceans with highly valued treasures. Sail your ship through the waters and plumb the oceans for treasures to pay off your crew. 

The game occurs over 4 "days" (rounds). The crew members perform a variety of tasks, such as sailing the ship, picking up treasures, providing income, converting gold to victory points, and more.  Each day is divided into 4 phases. In Phase I: Discovery Phase, a discovery card is flipped and treasures are placed in the ocean as directed by the card. In Phase II: Action Phase, all players simultaneously choose and reveal a crew member to employ.  In turn order, players execute the crew actions. This process is repeated 4 times, so each player performs 4 different actions per day. In Phase III: Explorer Phase, players may perform a bonus action (for a cost in gold). In Phase IV: Conclude Phase, prepare for the next round by retrieving crew member cards and passing the sun and sand timer (which are used for establishing turn order in Phase II).

Player Interaction

The game has a great amount of player interaction, suspense, and tactical guesswork due to the simultaneous action selection mechanic in which crew member powers decrease in efficacy each time a crew member type is chosen. For example, if you are the first to choose the Purser, you earn 6 gold, though the next person only earns 5 gold.  You must seriously consider what your opponents might do, while also making sure you choose the actions that help you. 

Multiple Paths to Victory

The game also provides multiple paths to victory. Should you focus on paying off your crew? Gaining money and buying your way to victory with the merchant?  Or steal the victory at the end with your hidden science cards?  Or, perhaps, you try a balanced approach that utilizes the multiple ways of scoring points.
