Royalists & Roundheads III

The popular Royalists & Roundheads system is back! This time the game features not only four new battles, Preston, Dunbar, Worcester and Tippermuir, but advanced rules that can be used with any of the games in the series. The Advanced Rules feature a new, interactive Sequence of Play, disruption, a new melee system, split commands, and cavalry second combat options. The games can be played either with the standard rules, or with some or all of the advanced rules.

The standard game features an innovative, easy to use command system, that recreates the problems of command in an elegant and simple way. Leaders are rated for command, initiative, and combat. Weapons range from pikes, muskets, and artillery to bows and lances. Each of the four games is complete in itself, and can be played in 1/2 to 3 hours, with the everpresent possibility of one side or the other triggering an automatic victory.

TIPPERMUIR, SEPTEMBER 1, 1644

This was the first battle for James Graham, the Fifth Earl and First Marquis of Montrose, as the leader of the Royalist forces in Scotland. Advancing on Perth, Montrose met the Covenanting army of Lord Elcho at the small town of Tippermuir, Outnumbered but not outgeneraled, Montrose demonstrated the brilliance that would mark his future battles.

PRESTON, AUGUST 17, 1648

The battle of Preston was the last major battle of the Second Civil War, and it cost Charles I his head. When Charles began the Second Civil War, he know that a defeat would have the most serious implications for his own safety. When Cromwell caught up to his army at Preston, only victory could sustain the King. Through the hedge rows on Ribble Moor to the streets of Preston, the battle raged ...

DUNBAR, SEPTEMBER 2, 1650

This was the first major battle of the Third Civil War. Learning that Charles II was raising a Scottish army, Cromwell invaded Scotland as a preemptive move. The Scots proved a tougher foe than he and his New Model Army had imagined, and by September 1 he found his line of communications with England cut by Leslie and his forces. The vicious battle of Dunbar on the 2nd left no doubt that both sides were deadly serious, and that war had began in earnest again.

WORCESTER, SEPTEMBER 3, 1651

In 1651, Charles II had reorganized his army after its defeat at Dunbar, and had marched south into England. At Worcester he met Cromwell's army. Worcester was the decisive battle of the Third Civil War, and eliminated any military threat to Cromwell's rule.
