Other Articles:

  • The Geopolitics of Cyberwar: Cyberwar is an increasingly central feature of 21st century military operations, with state, non-state, and trans-national powers as players.
  • MSB Hercules in the Persian Gulf: The growing threat of Iranian attacks on oil tankers in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq War brought the US Navy to the region. Lacking purpose-built vessels for a shallow-water war, the US Navy improvised two civilian barges to counter the threat.
  • Anti-Ship Cruise Missiles - An Evolving Threat: Anti-ship cruise missiles have changed the nature of naval warfare. From their humble beginnings in World War II, they now utilize modern technologies that allow them to be used from air, land, or submerged platforms.

The Game:

Chechen War is an operational-strategic level two-player simulation of the 1st Chechnya War (1994-1996) wherein the Russian Federation under Boris Yeltsin attempted to directly and forcibly put an end to the Chechen independence movement. The Russian player must deal with low morale at the front and at home to win the war to keep Chechnya within the Russian Federation. The Chechen player is outgunned and outnumbered, but can wage an effective guerilla campaign to bog down the entire Russian effort and thereby achieve independence. There is a total of nine game turns covering two years of conflict, from December 1994 to December 1996. The game map encompasses Chechnya and surrounding territories (Georgia, Ingushetia, Dagestan). Included on the counter sheet are Bonus counters for Modern War #1 (Red Dragon/Green Crescent), Modern War #18 (Green Beret), Modern War #21 (Kandahar) and errata counters for Modern War #17 (Dien Bien Phu).

Components: One 22" x 34" map on one sheet & 144 counters
