Das ASL Starter Kit 1 (ASLSK ) enthält auf 12 Seiten alle zum Spielen benötigten Grundregeln für Infanterie-Schlachten. Wer tiefer in ASL einsteigen will, kann vereinfachte Artillerie-Regeln (mit dem ASLSK 2) und Fahrzeug-Regeln (mit dem ASLSK 3) lernen, bevor er sich das mehrere hundert Seiten dicke ASL1Gesamtregelwerk zulegt.
Das Material der ersten Starterbox ist qualitativ gut. Man bekommt 2 neue Map-Boards auf akzeptabel fester Pappe (allerdings deutlich dünner wie die Originalboards von Avalon Hill im letzten Jahrtausend). Außerdem enthält die Starterbox etwa 280 Counter (amerikanische, deutsche und sowjetische Infanteristen und Waffen, sowie benötigte Statusmarker). Abgerundet wird die Box durch 6 Szenariokarten, die qualitativ den Karten in den dicken ASL Boxen entsprechen.
