New Orleans, 1981 - August. It was the hottest summer on record in New Orleans. Humidity coated the city like a mass of rancid honey. Jazz riffs leaked out of the French Quarter, valiantly trying to pierce the sweltering air. If ever the city owned up to its ancient nickname, the Wet Grave, it was in the summer of '81.

The murder was brutal and archaic. The detective in charge took one look, vomited into the bushes, and said out loud, to no one in particular, "This is gonna hang on our necks like a millstone if we don't put it to bed immediately."

A call was placed for outside help, a call no one really wanted to make, but the NOPD wasn't above begging, so the Beaumont Agency was asked to consult on what would become the first of the Congo Murders.

Welcome to New Orleans, Louisiana, circa 1980: a vibrant city of music, food, and magic. Neon lights flicker in dirty puddles up and down Bourbon street; the innovations of the modern world clash with ancient and terrible traditions; and murder is never simple. The Beaumont Agency, staffed with a roster of brilliant, colorful, and ultimately flawed private investigators, specializes in solving cases that no one else can crack.

The Dark Quarter is a heavily narrative digital hybrid board game with characters that are intimately connected to the story. The choices you make could result in their triumphs, deaths, or something even worse.

The content found in the game is intended for a mature audience. Content includes but is not limited to mature language, depictions of murder, supernatural and ritualist acts, substance addiction, and personal trauma.

In The Dark Quarter, a co-operative app-driven adventure game set in a dark, fantastical vision of 1980s New Orleans, players each take control of a Beaumont agent and work alongside one another to solve the worst crimes that New Orleans has to offer. It's a world full of magic, where hexing curses are sold on every street, where voodoo priestesses and creatures of the night are lurking around every corner, and where even the most mundane crimes have a tinge of the supernatural to them.

Through multi-scenario campaigns, the game tells a rich, dynamic story and invites players to make critical decisions that will not only affect their characters, but change the direction and course of the story. The characters are not simply avatars, easily replaceable from scenario to scenario; instead, they are woven into the very fabric of the story itself. Their destiny and the destiny of New Orleans are inextricably linked together.

The World of Dark Quarter - Who can you trust?

New Orleans is full of gangs and organisations who vie for influence over the People and Control of the powers hidden within the Dark Quarter.

Beaumont Agency

Your employer, originally established in 1799 by Celestine Beaumont as the "Chevaliers de la Croix," or the Knights of the Cross, the order was intended to Combat the dark powers infiltrating New Orleans. On ist centenary in 1899, the order became the "Beaumont Agency," a private firm Dedicated to protecting the City. Now run by Sophie Romero, the agency specialises in solving the crimes of Dark Orleans that the Police cannot.

Laveau Coporation

Founded in the early 1900s by the descendants of Marie Laveau, it started as a way to protect her legacy. But over the years it evolved into something sinister: a corporate powerhouse with ist fingers in every part of New Orleans life: culture, politics, crime, and even magic.

Cazador Inc.

Antinio de Sedella arrived in New Orleans in 1774, bringing with him the Spanish Inquisition. While the City as a whole rejected such fanaticism (that was the old world and this was the new, after all), de Sedella found enough zealots to build a small but thriving Tribunal, and when the Inquisition was oficially abolished 60 years later, the Orleans chapter didn`t get the Memo (or just ignored it).

The Casket Girls

The Casket Girls, shipped over from France in the 1700s, were earmarked as eligible wives for the New Orleans social elite. All of their earthly belongings were carried in small suitcases, called "caskets."

When they stepped onto the boat in Europe, they were human. But when they disembarked in New Orleans they had become something else.

The Dead Saturdays

The Dead Saturdays view themselves as a religious order, serving and worshipping the Lord of the Cemetery, Baron Samedi. Everyone else in New Orleans views them as what they really are: a gang of violent thugs who desecrate graves in pursuit of their obscene rituals. The Saturdays are easily marked by their garish White face paint, worn to both instill fear and pay homage to their chosen deity. Crass, unpredictable, and prone to excess, they embody the chaos at the heart of Dark Orleans.

The Rougarous

In 1735 packs of wild dogs terrorised New Orleans. Out of that Madness came the first rougarou: half-man, half-wolf, intelligent and violent in equal measure. Fiercly loyal and territorial, they now hold court beneath the Audubon Zoo, slaughtering anyone foolish enough to threaten their Domain. When not in beast form, you can often identify a rougarou by the steel collars worn around their necks. If you see that telltale glint of metal, best to get running.

Blinkers

"Did you see that Woman leaping across the rooftops? I swear she had claws like a wolf!" "Don`t be absurd, it`s just a trick of the light." So say the Blinkers, everyday citizens of the City who catch glimpses of the Supernatural world around them but refuse to believe what they`ve seen.

Just rub your eyes, blink rapidly, and that imagined Vampire becomes a severely pale Woman with terribly bright lipstick. "See? Nothing to worry About. Just a trick of the light."
