Approaching the mountain passes that connect western Honshu with the east, Koremori divided his forces into two, one part passing through the Kurikara Pass (between Tsubata, Ishikawa, and Oyabe in present-day Toyama) up to Tonamiyama, the other entering Etch Province, through Noto Province to the north.
Minamoto no Yoshinaka, seeing the Taira forces approaching the pass, hung thirty white banners on Kurosaka Hill a few kilometers away to deceive his enemies into believing that his forces were larger than they actually were. This was a delaying tactic, intended to keep the Taira at the top of the pass until nightfall.
He himself divided his forces into three groups. The first was sent to attack the Taira from the rear, to take the pass and emerge behind Mount Tonami. Yoshinaka tried to distract the enemy by tying them up from the front with continuous attacks, including numerous archery fire.
In the meantime, Yoshinaka's troops took up positions, while the Taira continued to fight effectively at the front. When the maneuver was noticed, it was too late. Orders were given to break through to the east, but the acacias were exceptionally difficult during the falling night. The Taira troops fell into a trap, which was a ravine with its high, steep slopes. The charge of bulls with torches on their horns, which supposedly caused the Taira army to panic, became a legend.
The game allows you to play the battle from its very first hours, but a scenario in which the Taira troops are completely surrounded is also possible.
